Highway To The Fright Zone!

Last issue of He-Man we saw Adora's return as she began making her way to the forbidden island of Anwat-Gar, to figure out what her connection is to a handmaiden from a thousand years ago that killed King Grayskull.  She won't have to make the journey alone though since the new Sorceress Teela has sent He-Man to meet up with his sister to make the trip go a little smoother.  But the journey won't be easy as the two realize that they have to make their way to a port town that has been transformed into one of Hordak's Fright Zones.  Let's see if  Anwat-Gar is in our heroes future or if they fall short of their goals.

Explain It!:

First off I just want to say that that is a damn strange cover for a She-Ra origin story.  Alright now that that was said, let's get to why you're really here.

Alright like I said He-Man and Adora are at Althra Port which has been converted into one of Hordak's Fright Zones, so it's time for a little stealth action.  While the two quietly make their way to a boat He-Man gets curious about what a Fright Zone is and here I am asking "Is this really the appropriate time to get inquisitive?"  But even though it's quiet time Adora gives He-Man and us the lowdown.  So Fright Zones are places created by the fear of the people of the area and once they are good and afraid the Fright Zone is able to consume the surrounding areas like a cancer, taking over the land and feeding the fear back to Hordak making him that much stronger.  Adora continues by saying that Hordak is like a force of natural and that since all things begin they must end and Hordak is the bearer of that end.  Superstitious mumbo jumbo if you ask me.  He may have a army, but we have a He-Man.

Obviously taken aback by the info that all the captured people and creatures of Althra Port will be consumed by Hordak, He-Man looses his shit and decides to go head first into the fray, Commando style.  Adora just stands back and watches amazed as He-Man raises his sword and tells everyone how he has the power and BLAM!

We've got a group of fried Evil Hordesmen.  I don't know if I'm just out of the loop, but when did He-Man stop being a Shazam like figure who just turned into a mighty mortal and turn into Thor?  You know what it doesn't matter.  It's badass and that's all I care about, hell bring me some more mysterious powers I didn't know about, I'm cool with it.  So yeah He-Man whoops some ass and Adora frees all the captured people of the Port town and even frees a unicorn pegasus fantasy horse that looks kinda familiar.  Battle Cat leads all the people and the fantasy things to safety as He-Man and Adora press on to find a sea worthy boat to make their way to Anwat-Gar.  That is until we see the true meaning of Fright Zone when the city itself opens up to attack our heroes.  Is this the end of He-Man and Adora?  Will they be swallowed whole by the world they strive to protect?  Of course not don't be silly, unicorn pegasus fantasy horse thing comes back and pulls our hero's asses out of the fire and the two and Adora's trusted stead Swift Wind fly off to Anwat-Gar.  Yeah they never call unicorn pegasus fantasy horse Swift Wind, but I'm getting tired of calling it that ridiculous description.  It's Swift Wind the alicorn.  So that's the end of this month's Eternian action, make sure you're back next issue so we can see what's so forbidden about the forbidden island.

Bits and Pieces:

While not the badass heavy story driven issue that the last two were, He-Man and The Masters of The Universe #15 delivers nonetheless.  I'm really digging what Abnett and Mhan have been bringing us and appreciate that they are updating the franchise and turning the epic level up to eleven for this series.  The epic nob normally stops at ten just so you know.  Our heroes continue their journey to the forbidden island and with it we come closer to unraveling the origins of She-Ra and I can't wait to get my Princess of Power on.  I wonder what six year old me would say about that statement.  Go check it out and join the fun and excitement that only Eternia can bring.

8/10
